Friday Favorites | 10.18.13

Hello everyone! It's Friday already?! Wow! Here are my favorites!

Currently smelling: Pumpkin Spice Mainstay Candle

My sister has this candle lit all of the time and it really helps you get into season...and also makes you want a slice of pumpkin pie, YUM!

Currently designing: Magazine Word Cut Outs

This photo is of my room and this idea originated from Tumblr. It's very unique, adorable, and just awesome! There's nothing hard about this project. All you need is scissors, a magazine, and a quote.

Currently styling: Flannels

I am absolutely in love with this trend. I want to buy so many, every single color!
Plaid is the perfect fall pattern to go with! No doubt!

Currently Reading: Seventeen Magazine

Ever since I found out I could borrow magazines from the library, I started reading Seventeen.
The fashion, the stories, the advice, the products! I love it all and it's super helpful to get in the "in."

Song of the week: Dead & Buried - A Day To Remember

Have a great weekend!

Fullscreen's Beautique Partners - Pros / Cons

Hello everyone! I've been wanting to write about an issue I have been having with a network I have joined for almost a year now. Let me start with who and what this is all about.

I joined Fullscreen.net a year ago. This network claims to "Grow your YouTube audience," "Increase Earnings," and be able to "Connect & Collaborate." Don't get me wrong, because of Fullscreen I have made money but also my channel has grown. In Fullscreen, you are allowed to volunteer for Gorilla Campaigns. With these, you talk about a topic they give you, hit the key points, and publish your video to youtube. With this, you earn CPM which varies. To learn more about what Fullscreen is, visit their website: www.fullscreen.net

About a year ago, I have also joined a little network inside of Fullscreen. The network is called "Beautique." In this group, you can collaborate and talk with other fashion and beauty gurus. But this is very hard to do so, it may seem easy but it's not. I have noticed BT has been accepting more popular channels with around 20k + subscribers. Everyone knows how difficult it is to get a response from these gurus. You would think being in the same group as them it would be easier, false. Anyways, this isn't as important as what I am about to say.

The bigger issue is BT promoting gurus. Like I said, I've been with them for about a year now. I have been promoted one time from BT specifically. Fullscreen has also promoted me but that is a different story. Recently, I have noticed they only promote really popular channels and little channels every so often. How? Well let me explain. I have tweeted them my videos every time I post one. They either reply with a "cool!" or just favorite it. Yes, a response is awesome but I would love to be promoted just like the other channels. Another partner even said she gets the same treatment. Also, when I watch their "roundups," which they talk about what videos they thought were cool, I notice only popular channels! Now, maybe my videos aren't as good quality but don't you think the little channels deserve to be put into the roundup!? I have had very creative videos and I thought "Oh, maybe this cool video will be featured this week." Nope, I just got that tweet "cool." They also promote videos through their Twitter AND Facebook. But of course, its the videos that have already 10,000 views! I have only seen a low viewed video promoted maybe about 5 times...but remember, i've been in this network for a year now! What's funny? As I am writing this post, I visit BT's Facebook and they have promoted my latest video. But like I said, this happens once in a blue moon! I would also like to add, their likes and followers are very low count for a network and isn't worth the promotion.

I would also like to add BT started off with a Facebook group! I absolutely loved it as well as others! I literally was able to talk to bigger gurus and they would watch my videos! But then they decided to get rid of it and create a facebook page. With the page, you cannot connect! It's not the same and it's a definite downgrade.

Another subject, the questions. A few people I know have asked BT, "What do I need to do to have my channel grow?" Their responses were not helpful. They simply got a "use tags, use annotations, use blah blah blah." They do not go into detail with how to use them effectively. People have also gotten responses like "We aren't aware how to grow the channel, we don't know much on it." What do you know, someone who supposedly knows everything about youtube...well..doesn't?! Now my good friend has helped me use the tags and annotations effectively. If you would like to know how, send me a message on YouTube: www.youtube.com/fashionbyhayley.

Here are some opinions on Beautique from other members:

"They aren't a beauty network. Although they feature creators they don't have enough credit to have that make a difference. There are no campaigns that make it easy for Beautique members to add to videos. Gorilla campaigns are random and the money is gone too fast. I was asked to join style haul a month after signing to Beautique. SH seems to offer real opportunities and goals to be these creators who are able to get these opportunities. I feel like there's nothing to strive for. I have been promoted two times and on their channel once. But they do focus on the mostly popular channels."

"I'm in Fullscreen Beautique. It's the worst mistake I made and I advise people to never join a network unless you're already a big YouTuber. After signing on the dotted line they leave you completely alone while you do all the work to make money for yourself and them... I tried getting out of the contract and they flatly said no."

Here is a message from another Beautique partner:

"Beautique has its ups and downs. When I first started I felt like there was a little more interaction, but now I'm starting to feel a little lost. A couple months into my partnership, they sat down on the phone with me and gave me a ton of advice on growing my channel, which was awesome! I also made a video for the YouTube Beautique page that was featured, but that was once again when I was first partnered and not that good. I like that they are started to showcase a lot of beautique partners on the Facebook page, but that's really the only thing being done right now. I haven't received an email back I sent months ago asking advice on my channel. I haven't been chosen to be featured in anything since I first got partnered. I'm not really sure how I feel about them anymore. Because I've watched girls that started way after me, get partnered with other companies and they're already WAY more popular because I've seen them all over their partner programs social media sites. I joined a partner program to feel a sense of community. I don't know that I'll stay once my contract is up, as I've only made a couple real friends so far and no sense of community."
Megan | www.youtube.com/Megalizabeth9

Overall, These types of networks are just a waste of your time. I feel bad for new creators, like me, who get stuck in a contract that isn't doing any good for their channel. I believe the best decision for a creator is to do it all on your own. It takes time and effort to have a great channel grow in the long run. As for Beautique, they are unfair, can be unfriendly, and are not helpful at all. The only good thing that comes out of joining a network is somewhat exposure but the best part is meeting new people. To get your name out there, the main key is connection. BT doesn't really offer this as strongly as they should.

Pros of BT:

  • You can make friends with other gurus.
  • It can be a great experience.
  • You are in a network that might help you...that is if you have 20k or more subscribers.
  • Your name is connected with a network.
Cons of BT:
  • Hardly any promotion.
  • They aren't helpful when it comes to questions about growing your channel.
  • They aren't very popular in social media.
  • They aren't responsive to questions, it takes too long to get help.
  • You aren't featured.

Quick Tip Tuesday: On-the-go bang wash

There are days when our bangs look really greasy and gross. I get these days a lot but I have found a quick solution that literally only takes five minutes! Yes, you can use dry shampoo but my hair feels nasty and powdery. I just don't like any of those products. I decided to stick my head under the faucet but just my bangs only. I soak the bangs starting from the top and then take a small dab of shampoo on my hangs and then just do the normal and wash. Then if I feel like blowdrying my bangs, I do so but usually I let them air dry.

Let's begin with what you will need
  • Shampoo
  • Sink
  • Hair Dryer (optional)
  • Brush
  • Comb
  • Hair Ties

Step one
Begin putting your hair up so it doesn't get in the way and become wet.

Step two
Adjust the faucet to a comfortable temperature.

Step three
Stick your bangs under the water to get them wet.

Step four
Squeeze a small amount of shampoo on your fingers and begin to wash your hair. Then rinse it out when finished.

Step five
Take your comb and brush out your bangs to where you feel like they look nice.

Step six
This part is optional, i usually let my bangs air dry but if you blow dry your hair, take the comb and brush the bangs out.

Step seven
Then after a few seconds, I then take my bigger brush and brush my bangs to where they are comfortable and nice.

Step eight
Next, I take my hair out of the ponytail and brush it out and part it.

And you are done. Your bangs look and feel clean within five minutes!

Hope you enjoyed today's tip. Let me know if you found it helpful!

Magazine Monday: Fall Essentials

Unfortunately, it's monday again but on the bright side, it's magazine monday! Today I decided to share a few fall essentials with you. Fall means bringing out the boots, sweaters, and other cozy items. The colors are also different than summer's! For the fall, stick with dark shades of reds, purples, blues, and greens. Try to stay neutral yet adorable! It's simple!

1. Knit Top Work Boots, Pacsun, $49
I love these boots because they have a "chilly day fall" feeling and they seem to keep you warm with the knitting at the top of the boot. The color is very neutral and can go with a lot of cute simple and complicated looks. These boots can definitely be a statement piece.

2. Winter Night Infinity Scarf, Forever 21, $14
I will always love infinity scarves. They are a must for Fall because how warm they keep you depending on which fabric it is. Any color will work for this fall as long as it's neutral. These scarves can really make you look laid back yet make you look like you came right off of tumblr.

3. Knit Tights, H&M, $9
You are crazy if you do not wear tights during chilly season while you wear a skirt or dress. Knit tights can keep you warm unlike other thin fabric tights. These are also way cuter than a plain "look" to them.

4. Rib-knit Hat, H&M, $9
Beanies are a must for this season as well. You can definitely make your outfit look more punk or more military depending on which clothing you're rocking. Beanies also keep your head and ears warm! I like to stick with a simple black beanie because black matches everything! Too cool!

5. Felt Hat, H&M, $12
Another hat to look more fancy and girly is this felt hat. The color is perfect for this season as well. Wear this hat with a simple top and a skirt or maybe with a dress. Then pair it with a cute pair of boots and leggings. Bam! You have a warm and fancy Fall outfit.

6. Posh Faux Leather Crossbody, Forever 21, $19
I wanted a little color to this collage so I decided to pick out a quick and simple crossbody. The color is still a little subtle. This crossbody can make your look pop if you are wearing a lot of netruals.

7. Color Sensational Ruby Star Lipstick, Maybelline, Varies
Lipstick is fun and can make you look "made up" if you are feeling lazy with your eye makeup. A simple red can make you pop and look great for the Fall. I believe reds are the best for the fall because they are still out there yet calm.

8. Urban Decay Naked Palette, Urban Decay, $52
This palette is horrendously expensive just for eyeshadow but it is still amazing and definitely worth the splurge. The colors of this palette is perfect for the fall because of how simple and neutral they are. If you YouTube a lot of tutorials, I guarantee a lot of gurus are using this palette.

9. Alligator Purse Nail Polish, Essie, $8
I won't go much into the nail colors because they are explanatory. I've been mentioning sticking to neutrals but with orange, it's a must. With Halloween coming up, paint your nails orange.

10. Mochachino Nail Polish, Essie, $8
11. Downtown Brown, Essie, $8
12. Merino Cool, Essie, $8
The rest of these colors are simple and cute for this season. There are a lot of ideas out there. Pinterest is a great way to find some adorable design for this season.

Have a nice monday and don't forget to rock those neutrals and warm items!

Friday Favorites!

Thank goodness it's Friday...ermm..well..I haven't done anything since tuesday that involves "work" so I'm basically on vacation lol but here are my favorite for this week!

Currently Playing: Dinorama

It's only been the first day of playing this game and I'm hooked. Basically, the game is a dinosaur zoo. My nephew loves dinosaurs and I saw this and decided to let him watch me play it. Turns out, I love it! I'll more than likely stop playing this within two weeks.

Download FREE app here!

Currently obsessing over: Pierce The Veil

I saw this band Friday along with A Day To Remember, All Time Low, and The Wonder Years. I had a blast but then I developed this obsession for Pierce The Veil. If you didn't know, I'm wearing one of their hoodies in my most recent video. They are all super sweet and talented.

Currently drinking: Dairy Queen Strawberry-banana smoothie

I had to buy two cups of this because I am totally obsessed. They're pretty pricey but it's just like starbucks. Smoothie king is great but Dairy Queen is a tad bit cheaper and more delicious. If you know me, you know I love anything strawberry-banana. I'm in love.

Currently loving: iPhone tribal case

I bought this case before I went to the concert for protection. I am a huge fan of tribal print and I love the color purple and blue. I was hesitant to purchase this product but I went for it. I love how protected my phone is with this case and also how chic it is. I recommend buying from ULAK on Amazon. Just make sure it's the right case for your "pod" type. I almost bought an ipod case for my iphone 4s! Yikes!

Currently listening to: Lonely Girl by Tonight Alive

This song is pretty awesome and I love Tonight Alive. The drumming is pretty sweet and Jenna's vocals are off the charts. Super catchy and worth listening to!

Sweaters, sweaters, & sweaters

Sweaters are super laid back and comfy! I love to wear them and honestly, I would wear them all year around if it were chilly. I have looked around on some websites and have picked out a few sweaters I think are adorable and great for this Fall!

1. Cable-Knit Sweater, H&M, $24
Go simple! I love the dark blue for this season and it's easy to pair with a statement necklace. Or maybe you can just sit around the house in this comfy sweater!

2. RVCA Buddy Sweater, Pacsun, $69
The unicorn-tribal print is pretty cute and feminine! This sweater would look super cute with dark fall colors with some boots and leggings.

3. Polka Dot Sweater, Forever 21, $17
The neon green color may not be the rage for this fall but in person, it looks super cute and girly. Wearing this top will make you look super stylish!

4. Tribal Sweater, Target, $24
I'm in love with tribal print, especially for the fall. The colors are very subtle as well. This is totally a lazy and chic look, which I love!

5. Daisy Print Pullover, Romwe, $26
Very simple and very feminine. Daisy's have always been my favorite flower. The colors are very subtle as well and great for this season. You can look fashionable yet laid back and that is wonderful!

6. Trilove Sweater, Urbanog, $33
The triangles are awesome in this piece! More of a "daring" look and wanting to appear more "skater."

7. Colorblocked Dropped Shoulder Sweater, Forever 21, $19
Of course, stripes are great for the fall. They are calming, relaxed, and simple. The color scheme is perfect for the season and can help you appear more happy.

Where do you like to shop for your sweaters?
